Scad the Beggars - the 'Black Nun Folk Club' years.
As well as playing at literally hundreds of informal Sessions over the years,
Scad the Beggars have also played at a variety of clubs and festivals.
I founded & ran the
Black Nun Folk Club in North Antrim for eight years & members of
Scad the Beggars would usually start those nights off so we have supported a wide variety of artists over the years, so not only Traditional Irish and Scottish Singers and Musicians, but also Singer Songwriters, Bluegrass and Old Time Musicians plus a number of Rock and Country groups too!
Two such regular attenders and performers at the Black Nun Folk Club were
Riley Piddington and
Desie Hasson, who not only attended the Folk Club but would also join us in our local Pub Sessions, so before long they also became members of the regular
Scad the Beggars line up.
During this time another Co. Antrim man,
Sam Fleming, began joining our weekly Pub Session & as Sam was a multi instrumentalist playing Northumbrian Pipes, Whistle & Harmonica he fitted in very well & quickly became a member of our merry band.

In 2003 I organised the
Black Nun Fest in 2003, in Ballycastle, &
Scad the Beggars played support act to the festival's headline band
Malinky. Then in 2005 I organised the
Causeway Dulcimer Festival when we also got a number of opportunities to perform at various sessions & concerts.
